If you like the outdoors, Aberdeen is close to beautiful scenery at the beach and surrounding countryside.  Surfing, kayaking, mountain climbing, snowboarding, skiing and white water rafting are all within easy reach of the city.

Facilities

According to The Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey, 2016 – RGU is equal in the UK with Oxford University for the quality of their facilities and boast a state-of-the-art learning facility in a beautiful riverside campus location.

Due to the University's close links with industry this also includes the Drilling and Advanced Rigging Training (DART) Simulator which is owned by KCA DEUTAG but built in and hosted by RGU due to a strategic alliance. This full-scale simulator is a reproduction of an offshore platform or land rig, complete with 3D graphics of the rig’s drill floor operated by both a driller and assistant driller, this is as close to the real live scenario as a driller can get. The entire experience, equipment, control room cabin are all true to life. This simulator is the only of its kind in Europe.   

Student support services at RGU are far-reaching and include:

  1. Student help point – for finance, accommodation, travel or systems support.
  2. Careers and Employability Centre – for mock interviews, CV support, job searching, internship/placement support during studies and mock graduate assessment training.
  3. Disability and Dyslexia Centre – for students with specific support needs
  4. Study support – for students who would like help with English language, essay structuring, study planning and any other academic support out-with classes. 
  5. IT Help Desk – for any IT issues for personal laptops and devices.
  6. Students Union - this is a student run organisation managing the running of societies and clubs across the university.  Organising freshers week.  Proving confidential services such as Nightline, health and advice and support.

RGU: Sport – Is the on campus sports centre which includes:

  • An Olympic size swimming pool
  • 2 Cardio rooms
  • 2 Resistance rooms
  • Various exercise classes including Spin training
  • Climbing wall
  • Bouldering room
  • Sports Hall
  • Physiotherapy clinic

There is student accommodations available both in and near the campus as well as in the heart of the city centre. The cost varies from £100-£150 per week roughly and there is an option for apartments, ensuite bedrooms and bedrooms with shared facilities depending on the preference of the students. There is also the option for students to rent private accommodation in Aberdeen if they prefer, or if they are travelling with family.

The RGU campus is based on a beautiful grassy riverside so a very relaxing place to study, that offers lots of outside study or social areas. There are also various eating establishments including subway, costa, starbucks and papa Johns, making it a very sociable campus to be a part of.

It has a city centre but it is small and easy to navigate, it is also costal however and students are always pleasantly surprised that they can travel to the beach or to the countryside and both would take 30 minutes to reach. There is also good hill-walking/ hiking very close-by.
