“Nottingham is the nearest Britain has to a truly global university.” - The Times Good University Guide 2014

With over 43,000 students from more than 150 countries, award-winning campuses in the United Kingdom, China and Malaysia and a history of excellence spanning over 125 years, The University of Nottingham has a diverse community which creates an inspiring place to study.

The University of Nottingham is a founder member of the Russell Group, a group of 24 leading UK universities committed to maintaining world class research, an outstanding teaching and learning experience and unrivalled links with business and the public sector. Ranked in the top 70 universities worldwide by the QS World University Rankings 2015/16, Nottingham attracts academics and students from across the globe. Twice since 2003 our research and teaching academics have won Nobel Prizes.

Nottingham has five faculties and a wide range of departments offering over 360 undergraduate courses and over 380 postgraduate taught courses, with MRes and PhD opportunities across a constantly evolving range of disciplines.

The latest REF (2014) ranked Nottingham 8th in the UK in terms of research power, which measures the quality and quantity of research conducted by an institution. More than 97% of research is recognized internationally, while more than 80 per cent of Nottingham research is ranked in the highest categories — ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

In a poll of more than 20,000 students across the UK, Nottingham was named number 1 for giving students the best employment prospects when leaving university (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2015).  According to independent research, the University is a world top 50 choice for employers (QS World University Rankings 2015/16) and is consistently among the most targeted universities by the UK’s leading graduate employers (The Graduate Market in 2013, 2014 and 2015, High Fliers Research). Over 2,000 employers approach the University every year with a view to recruiting our students.

As well as an excellent academic reputation, Nottingham is well known for its sporting success and depth in performance sport. With over 70 sports clubs, Nottingham teams have consistently finished in the top 10 out of over 140 institutions competing in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) overall league championship table since 1985. In order to further the University’s sporting success, a sports bursary scheme exists to help outstanding athletes meet extra costs of high class sports participation during their time at Nottingham.

The University provides an impressive range of sports facilities including modern sports centres and gyms on all three UK campuses. The sports centre on University Park Campus currently houses three full-sized sports halls comprising 12 badminton courts, seven squash courts, a multipurpose room, practice rooms for martial arts and table tennis, a snooker room and a bar. The new David Ross Sports Village is under construction with an expected completion date of September 2016. Plans for the £40m facility include 20 badminton courts, an indoor sprint track, climbing wall and martial arts dojo.

The Careers and Employability Service organises and promotes a range of opportunities, including:

  • an award-winning Inside Employment module which allows you to work in a team and research careers in different sectors, before presenting your findings to employers and academics
  • the ‘Careers in...’ programme of talks, delivered by experienced practitioners and alumni, providing valuable insights into careers such as the media and PR
  • the Careers Planning Skills module, which is part of the Nottingham Advantage Award and a chance to learn about and practise the skills needed to secure a graduate job

  • case studies similar to those used in assessment centres and management training, facilitated by employer contacts or careers advisers
  • the Student Business Planning Competition, which is a series of workshops to help you gain the skills you will need to set up your own business after graduation

Nottingham's extensive library facilities house more than a million books and journals, as well as four million manuscripts and several thousand electronic journals and books. Hallward Library on University Park Campus is open 24/7 and all of the libraries have extended opening times during exam times.
